About the Artist: Few artists can rival the standards of excellence achieved by Master Artist Terry Redlin, over the past 23 years. In 1977, at the age of 40, Redlin burst onto the wildlife scene when his painting "Winter Snows" appeared on the cover of The Farmer magazine. By 1979, demand for his work had become so great that he left his art directing career to concentrate on painting wildlife.
Redlin's immense popularity can also be measured by the success of his books, "Opening WIndows to the Wild, The Art of Terry Redlin," released in 1987, and "Master of Memories," issued ten years later.
Redlin's most compelling recent project was the construction of a museum to house his original art in Watertown, South Dakota, where he now resides. Nearly one million visitors have toured the Redlin Art Center since it opened in June, 1997. The artist donated the $10 million museum to the state in appreciation for an art scholarship he received after graduating from high school in Watertown.
About the Print: In "Hometown" Terry Redlin captures the romance of a snowy winter night with all the sparkle of the holiday season. In this scene, two deer have a clear view of the town below the hill. As the smoke from the surrounding chimneys wafts through the evening air, the deer slowly begin their nightly journey to the corn field just beyond the Lakeview Bed and Breakfast. We can see from the tracks in the snow that this is their favorite route. In the distance, the headlights encircling the skating rink tell us that the evening's entertainment has begun. We can almost hear the muffled laughter and the scraping of skate blades across the ice. Elements in this image were inspired by the artist's imagination, but it is a familiar scene in hometowns across America.
