Giuseppe Zocchi was born at Florence in 1711 and travelled to Rome and Milan to complete his education.
He became a painter of historical scenes and landscapes and also an engraver of his own, and other artists’, work. Most important to his development was his winning of the patronage of the important Gerini family and spent much of his time decorating their magnificent houses and castles around Florence.
During his many travels he also painted the greatest landscapes of the regions through which he passed and he left an excellent series of topographical images of Italy in the eighteenth century.
Zocchi died in Florence in May 1767.
