About the Artist:
Martin Theodore Ward was born in 1799 at London, the son of William Ward.
He showed talent at an early age and became a student of Landseer. At the beginning of his career he exhibited at The Royal Academy, the British Institution and at Suffolk Street.
However, his early success did not continue and, after 1840, he settled in Yorkshire, where he died in poverty in 1874.
