About the Artist:
Born in Bruges in 1810, Simoneau's father was a lithographer and his uncle was François Simoneau.
Gustave Simoneau was known for both his lithographs and for his water-colour paintings, which mainly featured village scenes and topographical subjects. As an engraver, one of his most successful pieces was Les Principaux Monuments d'Europe.
He exhibited at the New Water-colour Society in London from 1850 to 1870. The Museum of Brussels keeps two of his original engravings, View of Brussels and View of Oberstein.
