About the Artist:
John Roderick Dempster MacKenzie was born in London in 1865 and the family moved to the USA in 1872. He trained at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and then went to Paris to study at the Academie Julian. MacKenzie was invited to visit India, where he travelled to the Khyber Pass region. He painted the subject `Baluchis and our Restless Neighbours – The Afghans` in 1901 and the painting was exhibited at the Paris Salon. MacKenzie died in Mobile, Alabama in 1941.
