Little is known about the life of the English cartographer John Stockdale, who was born in 1749.
His notable publications include the American Geography in 1794, A New British Atlas, published with John Cary in 1805, and large scale maps of Scotland and England in 1806 and 1809 respectively. His 1805 atlas included many county views.
