About the Artist:
Carel Fabritius was born in 1622 in Middenbeemster Village in the Dutch Republic and he had two younger brothers, Barent and Johannes who also became painters. He was the only one of Rembrandt`s pupils to develop his own artistic style. There are very few paintings of his left in existence, but he was important in that he moved away from the Renaissance focus on Iconography and became much more interested in the technical aspects of painting.
