About the Art: Superior Edition
About the Artist:

Philip Brown was born in 1967 in the County of Lanark, Scotland. At that time Philip’s family worked as labourers in the steel industry and from the age of 16, Philip also spent his first few years of working life there. Life was hard and he found it difficult to adapt to such demanding work. Later as an artist this period of Scottish life, with its evocative sounds and rich smells, would have a great influence upon his work.

As a young adult, Philip discovered that he had genuine creative flare. His father encouraged him to follow more artistic pursuits and it wasn’t long before Philip had been granted a full scholarship to study art at university, based upon his natural gift for painting.

Years passed and Philip Brown is now a successful abstract artist. Working easily across many different media, his work has been published as prints and it can be found in numerous international galleries.

Having never let go of his proud Scottish roots, Philip’s artworks evoke the wild Scottish Highlands, the dramatic coastlines and the ever changing forces of nature. His use of natural, elemental forms and highly developed colour palettes combine beautifully with abstracted notions of modern life and creates a rich sensory journey. The broad appeal of his work is a result of the artist’s desire to encourage viewers to develop their own relationship with the image.

Philip lives with his wife in Scotland and works from his studio in Edinburgh.
