About the Artist:
Jean-Francois Hue was born on December 2, 1751. He was a French painter of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century. Hue specialized in landscapes and seascapes.
His talent enabled him to become official painter of the Navy, following in the footsteps of his master Joseph Vernet. Thus in 1791, the Constituent Assembly entrusted the task of completing the series representing the ports of France, ordered to Vernet from 1753. Between 1792 and 1798, he produced a series of six paintings on the theme of the ports of Brittany.
Hue died in 1823.
