About the Art: Superior Edition
About the Artist:
Undoubtedly one of the greatest assets of 19th Century equestrian art was the Herring family, which provided many of the most memorable paintings of sporting, coaching and rural scenes in British art.
The family played a significant role in English art throughout the century, with J. F. Herring Senior being probably the best known member. Benjamin Herring Junior, born in 1830, was the youngest son of J. F. Herring Senior and he contributed to many of his father's paintings.
Unfortunately Benjamin died at an early age in 1871 and therefore did not fulfil his artistic potential. Aside from his artistic accomplishments, Benjamin Herring Jr was also considered to be the "black sheep" of what was an extremely talented family.
