About the Artist:
Emile Adan was born in 1839 and made a highly successful living as an illustrator and a painter of figures and landscapes, often working in water-colour.
He became a pupil of Picot and Cabanel in Paris and he exhibited frequently and loyally at the Society of French Aquarellists, (painters in water-colour) between 1863 and 1932. In 1892 he was awarded the highest accolade in the French art world, when he became a Chevalier of the Legion d’Honneur.
Adan gained enormous respect and died at a great age in 1937.
