About the Artist:Christine Relton was born in Cumbria and raised in Yorkshire, England. She eventually gave up teaching English in order to paint full time. Her years of teaching language taught her to appreciate the non-linguistic nature of art. She enjoyed the pure visual qualities of art, and loved the physical nature of creating art.
Relton studied art at Jacob Kramer in Leeds and earned a BA (Honours) degree from Lancaster based on time spent in India. She also lived in Japan and Vietnam, and painted widely throughout Southeast Asia. Since returning to the UK in 1996, Relton has made collaborative representational works with artist Tom Marine, in which they explore similar themes of place and memory. Their works are exhibited widely in gallery spaces and contemporary art fairs.
