The unique egg-shaped track and challenging surface at Darlington Raceway has drawn race fans from all over the world since it opened in 1950. The jets have finished their flyover, the sun has started to set, and the lights have come on to brighten the jet-black racetrack. In partnership with NASCAR, Thomas Kinkade Studios has captured the checkered flag on all the vintage racecars that have crossed the finish line at legendary Darlington Raceway. • Thomas Kinkade’s first collaboration with the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, LLC was NASCAR® Thunder, which celebrated the 50th running of the DAYTONA 500®. Thomas Kinkade attended this legendary race and created the best-selling painting.
• Carrying on in Thomas’ tradition the artists of the Thomas Kinkade Studios have captured the Darlington Raceway, known as “Lady in Black” because of its place as the first paved track in NASCAR® history.
• Located in Darlington, South Carolina, the “track too tough to tame” is also known for its unusual egg-shape.
• Built from 1949–1950, Darlington Raceway hosted the first Southern 500 on Labor Day Weekend in 1950, which was the first 500-mile race in NASCAR® history.
