Henry Martens flourished as a painter in London in the middle of the nineteenth century.
Martens is particularly well-known for his military paintings, some of which were later popularised by engravers, including a series of depictions of the Battle of Ferozshah, which were published by Ackermann at the Eclipse Sporting and Military Gallery in Regent Street in 1849.
