About the Artist:
Born about 1855, Henry Jamyn Brooks made a successful living as a painter of portraits, genre scenes and sporting art.
He began exhibiting at the Royal Academy and at the New Gallery in 1884 and continued to show his work until 1891.
Amongst his best known paintings are scenes from the playing fields of the great English public schools, including depictions of cricket at Charterhouse and a further game between Eton and Winchester, both of which were later popularised by engravers.
