Harry Bishop was born in Painswick, Gloucestershire, and attended the Gloucester School of Art until 1937. During World War II, he served in the R.A.F. and by 1947, he resumed his art studies at Wimbledon School of Art. He then became an art teacher in 1952.
In his spare time, he drew illustrations and artworks for the Amalgamated Press. His work includes 'Cal McCord' in Comic Cuts, 'Jesse James' in Thriller Picture Library, and 'Buck Jones and Grandpa's Old Mine' in Cowboy Picture Library. For Swift magazine, he drew the front page strip 'Tarna the Jungle Boy' between 1954 and 1963. He made the comic adaptation of 'Wyatt Earp' for Junior Express Weekly and the western 'Rex Keen' for the Express.
He became a full-time artist in 1956 and wrote and illustrated the comic adaptation of the television western, 'Gun Law', for the Daily Mirror from 1956 until the late 1970s. His final comic was the 'Wes Slade' newspaper strip, which ran in the Sunday Express from 1982. In the mid-1980s he had to give up illustrating due to poor health.
