About the Artist:
Patrick Adam was born in Edinburgh in 1854, the son of a well-known lawyer.
He trained at the Royal Scottish Academy under Chalmers and McTaggart and exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy from 1872 to 1916 and at the Royal Academy from 1878 to 1928. He was a founder Member of the eminent artist’s group, the Society of Eight, which began in 1912.
Adam began his career as a portrait painter but increasingly concentrated on landscape and genre scenes. In 1908 he moved to North Berwick and began to paint interiors, the theme on which he concentrated for the rest of his life and for which he is best known today. These included interiors of his own home and of nearby houses of historic and artistic interest.
Patrick Adam died in 1929.
