About the Artist:
Aubrey Beardsley lived for only 26 years in the latter part of the 19th century. His drawings in black ink, influenced by the style of Japanese woodcuts, emphasised the grotesque, the decadent and the erotic and he was a leading figure in the Aesthetic Movement who contributed to the development of the Art Nouveau and poster styles before his early death from Tuberculosis when he was living in Menton on the French/Italian border.
