About the Artist:
Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida was a Spanish painter born in 1863. Growing up as an orphan in Valencia, Sorolla was the eldest child of two. His first introduction to art was at the age of 9.
His natural affinity for art led him to Madrid, where he would study master paintings at the Museo del Prado. Following his military service, Sorolla completed a four-year painting scholarship in Rome.
As an established Impressionist artist, Sorolla focused on painting large canvases for international exhibitions and salons. His varied creative interests included orientalism and mythology, explored through figurative and landscape subject matters.
