About the Artist:
The son of wealthy farmers, he was born in France and sent to study at a pharmacy in Toulouse but he rebelled and enrolled at the School of the Beaux-Arts in 1881 and subsequently went to the Beaux-Arts in Paris.
Sunlight was seminal to his paintings and his compositions reflect the harsh sunlight of the south.
His work is in numerous museums, predominantly in France, Switzerland and Italy.
