About the Artist:
Margaret Isabel Dovaston, 1884-1954 was particularly well-known for her oil paintings of historical interior English genre scenes, often depicting groups of figures in 18th and 19th Century dress. She lived at 51 Avenue Gardens, Acton from 1925 to 1954 and her studio was designed by her brother, John. The artist had an extensive collection of antique clothing and period household items. Our current Executive Chairman, David Roe, remembers as a child being fascinated by her studio which he visited with his father on a number of occasions. Margaret was a charming lady and a very talented artist of her style.
