About the Artist:
Born in Antwerp in 1599, Anthony Van Dyck was an influential Flemish painter of the 17th century.
Inspired by the work of Peter Paul Rubens and Titian, Van Dyck developed his skills in portraiture and religious genre paintings. Van Dyck found his success in the royal courts, from the young age of 22. He spent time at the English court, with periods of travel to Italy and the Netherlands.
He is best remembered for his portraits of King Charles I, after which Van Dyck became renowned for his ability to paint his subjects with a bold and flattering likeness.
