About the Artist:
Born in 1571, Jan Van der Hecke was a painter of the Dutch School. He commenced his studies under Carel Van Mander and later became a pupil of Jan Naghel. However, he soon broke off and succeeded in becoming a landscape painter of some renown.
Although he painted some portraits and pictures of village fetes, he is better known for his landscapes, the best examples of which are of Amsterdam. He was one of the founder members of the Guild of Almaar, which was his home town. He died after 1655.
