About the Art: Superior Edition
About the Artist:
Albert Joseph Moore was born in 1841 in England.
At first, he dabbled in Pre-Raphaelitism but he began to exhibit neo classical work from the 1860s and it is his work in this vein for which he is best known. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1867 and 1893, and at the Society of British Artists in Sussex Street.
Moore painted classical subjects in the 1860s and his later work consists almost entirely of Grecian figures carefully posed in an elaborate design. His prime interest was not in subject matter, but in colour, and he made careful studies, drawings and colour sketches for every figure in his pictures, first nude and then draped.
Moore died in 1893.
