About the Art: Superior Edition
About the Artist:
Samuel Howitt was an artist and teacher born in England in 1756. He enjoyed sports as a child, a theme that would later become a key subject matter in his artwork.
Howitt moved to London, where he became a drawing tutor alongside his own creative pursuits. With frequent exhibitions at the Royal Academy, Howitt became a well-established artist.
His delicate brushwork and distinctive style earned him illustrations for books and sporting magazines. Other subject matter included animals and birds, skilfully drawn and etched into prints.
