About the Artist:
Jean Marot, a French architect and engraver, was born in Paris in 1620.
He engraved religious subjects and views and plans of historical monuments of Paris and its neighbourhood. In conjunction with de la Boissiere, Silvestre, Chaveau, and other artists, he executed several of the plates for the cabinet of the King of France.
Among his principle prints are Twenty-one Views of the Chateau de Richelieu, Plans and Elevations of the Louvre: three plates and Plan and Elevation of the Chateau de Madrid.
Marot died in his native town on December 15th, 1679.
