About the Artist:
François Rivoire was born in Lyon, France in 1842 and died at age 77 in 1919.
A pupil of Regnier, Rivoire made his debut at the Salon of 1866 and in the same year was made a Societaire des Artistes Français. In 1883, 1886, 1889 and 1900 Rivoire was awarded prizes for his work and in 1906 was made a Chevalier de la Legion d’honneur.
He was a realist painter, usually of delicate flowers and plants. His still lifes were rich in color and depth, and brought out the divine beauty inherent in botanical subjects.
