About the Artist:

Edward Seago was born in Norwich, England in 1910. His early childhood was spent in the country and, from the age of 9, his home was in the marshland district of Norfolk. Seago was a self-taught artist but did spend a term at Norwich Art School and received advice from both Bertram Priestman R.A. and Sir Alfred Munnings. In 1945 he held a one-man exhibition in London of his war work and, in the following year, was elected a Member of the Royal Society of British Artists. His reputation grew so rapidly that in 1948 he painted portraits of the King and Queen at Buckingham Palace; he painted two portraits of the King in the uniform of the Marshal of the Royal Air Force, one commissioned by the R.A.F. Association and the other one acquired by the Air Council, with the companion portrait of the Queen (now Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother) for the R.A.F. College at Cranwell.

In 1950, Seago held his first exhibition in Canada and three years later he was assigned as one of the official artists at the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In 1957, he accompanied the Duke of Edinburgh on his tour round the world on board the Royal Yacht Britannia. The following year Seago held his first exhibition in Brussels.

Seago was never elected to the R.A. but was a distinguished member of the Royal Watercolour Society and it is probably in the watercolours of his native East Anglia that he expressed himself best.

Seago exhibited all over the world, including at venues in the United States and Great Britain.

Seago died in 1974.
