About the Artist: Born in 1948 in Bordertown, Australia, IAN HANSEN is a self-taught marine artist. He started painting when he was only 8 years old, and joined the Royal Australian Navy as an apprentice ship wright when he was 15. He served 12 years, reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Upon leaving the Navy, Ian decided to become a full time artist. His first one-man show was in Sydney was in 1974, and he has had many successful shows since. His most recent show was a Bi-Centenary exhibition at the Regent of Sydney Hotel in which all 43 of his paintings sold. A keen yachtsman, Ian sails in single-handed yacht races in Australian waters, and is currently rebuilding a 45 foot timber yacht for cruising in the Pacific Ocean.
