Artist: Ed Posa
Title: Winter's First Snow
Edition Size: 750
Medium: Paper Print
Dimensions: 4 7/8″ x 14 5/8″
About the Art: The Southwestern art of Ed Posa is dramatic and bold. He uses a kaleidoscope of color to create traditional western themes with a modern, stylized approach. Posa's paintings are mixed media works, combinations of vibrant watercolor and gouache. His treatment and application of color are reminiscent of the abstract colorists working during this midcentury - Helen Frankenthaler, Morris Louis and Mark Rothko. Over the years, artist Ed Posa has developed a unique style of painting that characterizes the authentic American Southwest. Posa creates an image by blending traditional southwestern themes with contemporary colors and dramatic impressionistic concepts. His mystical Indians and sweeping skies have become trademarks that can be seen in many of his works. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Posa has painted since childhood. After graduating from high school, he moved to Laramie, Wyoming, where he attended the University of Wyoming on a football scholarship. Posa became an educator and coached high school football for 30 years in Pueblo, Colorado, where he currently resides. He has worked with special children of all ages and needs. He was named Colorado Coach of the Year in 1967, and, in 1981, he received the Service to Mankind Award, a well deserved award which he cherishes. Posa's paintings celebrate both the broad and sweeping landscapes of western America and her indigenous Indians. There is a sense of the spiritual in his work - his Indian horsemen ride into skies that are sometimes inviting, sometimes forbidding and always beautiful. Native Americans describe his art as the touching of the heavens." The works of Ed Posa are painted with imagination and skill, and his original watercolors are on exhibit at fine art galleries throughout the United States.
