From the Artist: It’s not easy to paint a tribute to America. I realize now there is greatness to this country. This is felt and understood in a way that cannot be reduced to slogans or symbols. What I painted here, with the various elements, can only hint at the many feelings that I entertained when conceiving the painting. For instance, all of America’s conflicts, internal and external, have strengthened us and helped us stay on a course of, well… goodness. How do you paint that? In the end I painted a bit of our history, a bit of our land and a bit of our symbols. I hope this painting makes you feel proud but humble, too. – Andy Thomas
