Leroy Neiman Hand Pulled Serigraph on Paper: "The Artist - LeRoy Neiman"
Artist: Leroy Neiman
Title: The Artist - LeRoy Neiman
About the Art: 2004
Serigraph
Image size 12 ½" x 11 ½" (31.75 cm x 29.21 cm)
A limited edition of 235 numbered impressions; 47AP, 8PP, signed by the artist.
The self-portrait image in this limited edition serigraph first appeared on the cover of the artist's monumental 2003 book, Five Decades, a retrospective of fifty years of paintings, published by Harry N. Abrams. Featuring the artist's trademark moustache and cigar, the portrait is set against a classic Neiman background, an elegantly haphazard abstract color field. Foremost are the artist's eyes - clear, penetrating, watchful, sharp, discerning and canny.
Neiman has always maintained the value of outward appearances in mirroring a subject's inner thoughts or feelings. So too with his self-portrait. Here, the look and expression reveal the spirit of the artist, and his voluminous representations of the life he observes and partakes in.
