A limited edition of 375 numbered impressions; 100AP, 18PP, 225HC, signed by the artist Two hours west of Paris by superhighway is one of the plushest resorts in Europe, Deauville. It boasts brisk, bracing breezes and an invigorating climate that might have made it a favorite among Frenchmen for more than a century. LeRoy Neiman has captured this bright vitality in the famous French tricolor and other colorful flags which wave and ripple in the wind. The artist explained that much of the magic of Deauville comes from the sun. The same brilliant rays that turn the water slate gray in winter tint it bright azure in the summer. Rich yellow sunshine spilling down the center of the scene floods the composition with warmth, brightness and tranquility. The sparkling colors of the beach umbrellas and cabanas shimmer in the sun. But despite the vibrant colors and an occasional "monokini," the overall mood is tranquil. The broad sweep of the boardwalk stretches gracefully into the distance. Strollers move at a stately pace, whether walking pure-bred dogs or enjoying the refreshing sea air. Even the artist, seems to be enjoying the elegance and warmth of the moment.
