My work can be seen as an attempt to mirror this process, where the chaos of everyday life is controlled and pinned down onto the canvas." -Joe Simpson At just 23 years of age, Joe Simpson has already made a lasting impression in the art world. With a deep love for cinema and music, Simpson's photo realistic style illustrates frozen moments in time, inviting the viewer to inject a larger story into the painting. Brought together as a collection Simpson's work evokes the feel of a movie montage. A graduate from the University of Leeds with a First Class degree in Fine Art, Simpson has garnered a number of awards including the Celeste Art Prize, Grieve + Samaritans Art Prize, Liberté d'Expression and the Nationwide Mercury Music Art Award. Simpson's work is alive with a beautiful blend of vulnerability & sophistication. The characters in his paintings seem to depict the complexities of love set against city streets, parks and train stations. The mood in each painting is palpable. The image is so powerfully relatable that one can't help but say, "I've been there." Joe is currently living & painting in Manchester, England. He is presently working on a government, sponsored project involving nine up and coming bands. Joe has been commissioned to paint works that reflect the essence of each band's new album. The project will tour through the United Kingdom in late 2008.
