About the Artist : John Morton Barber is from Danville, Virginia, and worked as a commercial artist before heeding the call to paint Bay themes, a call he had felt since childhood. He is very involved in the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the Nature Conservancy, and the Calvert Marine Museum, and has donated print copyrights to raise money for their support. Renowned for his images depicting scenes from the Easter Seaboard and Chesapeake Bay, recently Mr. Barber has painted important buildings and historically interesting neighborhoods with articulate detail and beautiful illumination, allowing the viewer to travel to fascinating places. The artist painstakingly researches the theme for each of his paintings, sometimes for months. His viewers can see boats, buildings, waterfront scenes, and lighthouses that really existed, the way they looked in the era when sail and steamboats ruled the Bay.
