About the Art: Established in 1985, The Blauvelt Wildlife Art Museum's Artist-in-Residence program continues to draw some of the world's most celebrated artists. They are selected on the basis of their artistic ability and promise, and on their commitment to the museum's mission to protect and conserve wildlife and its habitats. The Greenwich Workshop and The Blauvelt Museum proudly introduce Aaron Yount.
"During a crisp fall morning in Grand Teton National Park, I set out to observe the elks' morning habit of crossing a field of sage brush," recollects Yount. "The elk had been spending the night in the safety of the forest and were likely to show themselves briefly as they moved from cover, to the Snake River. If I could time my arrival, the sun rise, and my position to the elk correctly I would see exactly what I had set out to experience. On this morning I was successful! The moment was brief, but I knew I would relive the experience as a painting and enjoy it long after that day had passed. Experiences like this one, and the pleasure I get in sharing these moments, are the reason I choose to paint. "
About Aaron Yount:
Born in 1974 and raised in rural Illinois, Aaron developed an appreciation for the outdoors. Using acrylics and oils, he paints wildlife of North America ranging from birds to the bison of Yellowstone. While naturalism and first-hand study of nature are visible in his work, he does not abandon the use of good design and other sound artistic principles.
