About the Art: This image of Bugs kissing Daisy Lou was adapted from the 1948 Friz Freleng-directed cartoon, "Hare Splitter," where Bugs' amorous desires are complicated by another rabbit, named Casbah. The character illustration was recreated by Juan Ortiz and the background rendered by Hector Martinez. Sometimes called serigraph cels, the serigraphy process involves silk-screening each individual color to the cel. Every distinct shade is a separate screen and pass, flawlessly reproducing each color.
About the Cel: The image of Bugs kissing Daisy Lou is taken directly from the 1948 Friz Freleng-directed cartoon, "Hare Splitter," where Bugs desires for a rabbit named Daisy Lou, are complicated by another rabbit, named Casbah. The character illustration inspired by the original film was created by Juan Ortiz. The ink lines from the original were used to create hand-cut screens for each vibrant color within the sericel. The background layout concept was designed by Brian Noveck, and the final rendering by Hector Martinez. The background was reproduced with the fine art giclee process. "Hare Splitter" as have other Looney Tunes love-related cartoons, uses love terminology of the day, including "pitch some woo."
