About the Artist:Rolf Rafflewski was born in 1943 in Hanau, a city in the suburbs of Frankfurt, Germany. He was a very brilliant student, especially in drawing and followed lessons of graphic art since the age of 12. Until the age of 16, he studied photography and typography, When he was 17, he started his own advertising studio in Hanau. Rolf was a publicist-painter, he created posters for the movies. In 1962, he immigrated to France where he painted in the street and lived on the sale of his works: at the "Pont des Arts" first, then "Place du Tertre" and finally on the "Parvis de Notre-Dame". From 1960 to 1962, he realized important mural frescoes for theaters and discotheques. In 1964, he used to paint in a restaurant just in front of the Odeon, "La Mediterrannee", where he met many personalities of both art and movie worlds: Cocteau, Fellini, Aragon, Mathieu,, Orson Welles (who bought several of his works). In 1970, he realized his first lithographs for Vision Nouvelle, A new career was beginning; he stopped painting at "La Mediterrannee". He realized six editions for Vision Nouvelle and then for 'The Book of The Month" (Newman). From 1972 to 1975, he worked out 60 editions for Art Conseil in Paris. In 1976, he was published by Francony, Rombaldi, Arnaud de Vesgre, Lublin. In 1977, he signed a 10 year contract with the Editions des Maltres Conternporains for which he realized more than 100 lithographs. He participated in the illustration of a major book titled "France" that contains 72 lithographs if his works.
