About the Art: Born in 1942 in Bayonne, New Jersey, Harry McCormick has excelled in art since childhood. Self-taught his initial aspiration was not to art but to acting, and it was a scholarship to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts that transplanted him to New York City, followed by work in stock, off-Broadway, television and movies. But, while still an aspiring actor, a series of highly successful exhibitions-the result of a chance meeting with a gallery director-eventually drew McCormick into full-time painting and printmaking, and in 1976, to the interiors of restaurants and bars that have become the particular focus of his imagery.
