About the Artist: Alex Meilichson has developed a figurative style, using a palette of brilliant colors. His favorite media are ink, acrylic and oil on canvas. He paints Judaic themes, landscapes and still life in an expressionist ‘Ecole de Paris' approach.
Venezuelan born Alex Meilichson was attracted to painting since early childhood, his talent soon becoming apparent amongst his classmates. He immigrated to Israel with his family, and later studied Sociology and Political Science at the Tel Aviv University.
However, his deep yearning for knowledge and for the arts propelled him to study History of Art at the ‘University of Berlin', then return to Venezuela and study at the ‘Christobal Rojas School of Art' in Caracas. Still unsatisfied, he continued studies at the ‘Art Student's League' in New York. Two of the artists who have influenced him considerably are Marc Chagall and Manne Katz.
Later Meilichson joined his close friend the painter Zamy Steynowitz, with whom he shared a studio and painted together for the next nineteen years, first in Caracas and then in New York.
Meilichson traveled extensively around the world, visiting thirty-five different countries in the Americas, Europe and the Far East. He visited many art monuments and museums, absorbing the influences of diverse cultures. He has a large private collection of several thousand books and numerous artworks.
Meilichson has exhibited in Venezuela, Israel and the United States.
