Shlomo Alter Hand Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Serigraph on Paper: " Sea View "
Artist: Shlomo Alter
Title: Sea View
Size: 9" x 11"
Edition Size: Artist Hand Signed and Numbered Limited Edition
Medium: Serigraph on Paper
About the Artist: Shlomo Alter's work is influenced by his early recollections of the elegantly dressed people gathered in the courtyard of his parents' restaurant in Bucharest, Rumania eating drinking and dancing to the music of the Gypsy bands, and enjoying the convivial atmosphere. With an air of hope and optimism, Alter's art reflects the joys of life, an antithesis to the Nazi regime that shattered his childhood happiness. His paintings are like a stage set, at once motionless and waiting to burst into action. The artist's unique vision and personality come through in each of his works. He draws on a wide array of colors to tell his stories, employing vivid and exuberant pigments as his vocabulary.
Alter utilizes an incredible range of artistic techniques; he works in mixed media, including ink drawing, gouache, watercolor, oil, silkscreen, painted sculpture, and most recently - computer graphics.
Alter was born in Romania to a family of restaurateurs, and immigrated to Israel in 1948. His artistic gifts became apparent at an early age; during high school, he began studying painting under the well-known artist Aaron Avni. Several of Alter's early works appeared in UNICEF'S ‘World-Touring Exhibition of Young Artists'. Upon leaving the military as a lieutenant in 1959, he married and embarked upon a successful career in the computers industry. He continued painting all the while, while being mentored by world-famous Marcel Janco. Finally, he quit his job and dedicated himself entirely to art.
Alter has held many one man and group exhibitions throughout the world. His works are included in many notable private and corporate collections.
