About the Art: "When I decided to do a painting of Yoda and Luke on Dagobah, I wanted to include R2. He's like Luke's little brother, isn't he? Luke is tasked with this overwhelming assignment. Go to this barren, swamp world and learn to be a Jedi...learn the ways of the Force from this wise, ancient Being. And Luke is impatient, angry, condescending..... and little by little he sees the power of this little green man's wisdom. All the while, there's R2. We see Luke's growth through R2's eyes (Or should i say one eye) From standing on tippy toes to see into Yoda's hut in the pouring rain, to hovering over the swamp as Luke practices his power of the Force.
I've put R2 in the shadows. Yoda imparts a bit of wisdom on Luke as they take a break. The rare sun breaking through the dim dank swamp to highlight a moment in time. Luke seems to finally understand. And there is R2. He is our eyes. Standing near the clearing, covered in the mud and slime of the swamp, he is witness to the event. And we along with him. I've used the dark trees and R2 to create a frame into which we see the Lesson.
But we all know that Luke cannot keep his promise with Yoda and stay to complete his training. There is a Dark future waiting for him. I've put a few lines and shapes into the trees and vines of Dagobah to hint at the terror that Luke will face. If you look closely, and use a little imagination you will see him there.....Vader." - Kim Gromoll
