About the Art: Superior Edition
About the Artist:

Abraham Goos, who flourished between 1614 and 1643, and his son Pieter, who lived between approximately 1615 and 1675, were another noted family of Amsterdam engravers who prepared plates for many maps published in the important atlases of the time including Speed’s atlas, and plates produced by the Hondius family.

Pieter continued and expanded his father’s business, and flourished as an engraver of sea charts in the mid 17th century.

Pieter Goos published an important Pilot Guide, the Zee-Spiegel, which appeared in many editions and which broke new grounds by providing charts for the coasts of the West Indies and Western Africa. His De Zee Atlas ofte Water-Weereld was published between 1666 and 1683 and included between 41 and 44 maps in 11 separate editions.
