About the Art: Superior Edition
About the Artist:

The English mapmaker Robert Morden flourished between 1668 and 1703, and worked from premises in New Cheapside and Cornhill as a map and book seller and a maker of instruments and globes.

He is remembered principally for the county maps he produced for Camden’s Britannia, which were issued in 1695 as part of a new translation of Britannia by Dr Gibson, and also for an unusual series of geographical playing cards published in 1676 and an 8-volume atlas published in 1680 under the title Geography Rectified. He also published a 12-sheet plan of London by William Morgan.

Morden is also known for a selection of very rare early maps of the British colonies in North America, which are now amongst the most sought-after items for collectors of old American maps.

Robert Morden died in 1703.
