About the Artist:
Born in Aubusson in France in 1768, Jacques Barraband was a pupil of Malaine.
Initially he made his career as a painter of images onto porcelain but he is best known today as a painter of birds and flowers. Some of the most notable achievements of his career include the designs he created for Sevres, his decoration of the dining room of the Chateau de Saint-Cloud, his illustrations of birds and insects for a number of eminent books of natural history and the cabinet he designed for Joseph Bonaparte.
He exhibited his work on porcelain in Paris between 1798 and 1806, where he was awarded the medaille d’or, and he became a Professor at l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon in 1807.
Barraband died in Lyon in 1809.
