About the Art: Superior Edition
About the Artist:
1861-1942. He was born in Paris and brought up the rich Parisian neighbourhood of Passy. He is regarded as mainly self-taught and he became a very successful portrait painter with style derived from Gainsborough, Manet and John Singer Sargent. He worked in London as well as Paris and was a great friend of Marcel Proust. He painted portraits of many famous people and his work is in a number of public museums including the Musee d`Orsay in Paris and the National Portrait Gallery in London.
